Webinar: Marketing International/ised Higher Education: Critical Approaches

Tuesday, 02 June 2020

This webinar, hosted by the International Research and Researchers Network at SRHE, tackles the topic of the marketing of higher education in an international – and internationalized – higher education sector. Mainstream norms surrounding the marketing of higher education are challenged from different perspectives in this event. Following on from the IRR network’s ongoing agenda to question and critique dominant discourses in the international/ised higher education sector, this event is positioned in the burgeoning field of critical marketing studies.

The event comprises three presentations from researchers who have researched the marketing on international/ised higher education from different angles, followed by a response from a discussant, with opportunities to ask questions during the event.

The first presentation is from Lee Rensimer, who will present research he conducted while at University of Wisconsin-Madison on the marketing of Britishness and the UK higher education brand in the international branch campuses of the UAE.

The second presenter is Kamna Patel (University College London), who will present on her SRHE-funded study on the marketing of Development Studies programmes.

The last presentation is from Emmanuel Mogaji (University of Greenwich) who will discuss the marketing of higher education in Africa, and the associated emerging challenges and opportunities.

Finally the discussant for the event, Chris Chapleo (Bournemouth), and expert in higher education marketing, will provide a response to the papers.
