Internationalisation of the Curriculum: A Focus on International Students

Tuesday, 30 June 2020

This webinar, hosted by the International Research and Researchers (IRR) Network at SRHE, discusses theme of Internationalisation of the HE Curriculum.

The topic is strongly linked to the IRR network’s ongoing agenda to question and critique practices and ideas in international higher education. It should be of value to faculty and other professional staff colleagues who (1) design curricula, (2) teach international students, (3) support international students. We would also like to encourage critically engaged international students to attend as well as all who are concerned about the diversity of curriculum and ideas in higher education.

The event comprises three presentations from teams of researchers and professionals who both research and also enact and engage with the issues of internationalization of the curriculum.

The presentations will present different perspectives using different datasets including reflections on practice, systematic reviews of the literature, and bibliometric analyses. The presentations are linked together by a group discussion at the conclusion. There will be opportunities to ask questions throughout the webinar.

The presentations are:

Dely Eliot and Gayle Pringle Barns from the University of Glasgow speak about the findings in Dely’s new book* ‘The Hidden Curriculum’ and the support practices for international postgraduate students at the University of Glasgow.

Zhuo Min Huang and Miguel Antonio Lim from the University of Manchester speak about the use of Chinese reference sources in student essays and the implications for the design of reading lists and curricula.

Sylvie Lomer and Jenna Mittelmeier from the University of Manchester share findings from their SRHE funded project: ‘Cash Cows or Pedagogic Partners? Mapping pedagogic practices for and with international students’.
