Preventing plagiarism

Friday, 12 January 2018

Plagiarism and contract cheating are reportedly on the increase. And while literature and research highlight attitudes towards and reasons for plagiarism, there is hardly any practical advice available on how to prevent plagiarism. In this interactive one-day course practical ideas and resources will be presented and provided. The session was developed initially for students, but has now been adapted so that academic staff experience the student workshop and are given the tools to deliver a suitably adapted version of this workshop to their studentship. The workshop is therefore suited for all academics, academic developers, practitioners, leaders and managers who are interested in preventing plagiarism in their courses or institutes.

The aim of this workshop is to demonstrate and provide practical ideas for the prevention of plagiarism. Through practically experiencing the student activities (sorting activity, real-life case studies, practicing synthesis, Turnitin practice page, integrity code and summary sheet) and in discussions with others, participants will be able to evaluate what would work best in their own context and identify elements to be implemented in their work.
