Job Summary

Imperial College launched a new Learning and Teaching Strategy in June 2017 and as part of this strategy, the College now seeks to appoint an Associate Professor of Education who will galvanise and augment existing educational and social science research activity across the College. This is a new appointment which is integral to the Learning and Teaching Strategy and is accompanied by significant investment in innovative, evidence-based teaching and learning methods across the College.


You will be affiliated with the newly established Centre for Higher Education Research and Scholarships (CHERS), the College’s new hub for education innovation, research and training. You will take a leading role facilitating pedagogic research and scholarship across the College that is aligned with the aims of the Learning and Teaching Strategy. In particular, you will be expected to develop research into the impact of the four pillars (as listed below) of the Learning and Teaching Strategy on the culture and pedagogic practices of the College:


·         To review our curricula and assessment, aiming to create space for innovation, for multidisciplinary activities and for students’ engagement with teachers, with each other, and with the world outside of Imperial;

·         To make our teaching more interactive, more supportive, more challenging and more rewarding for our students;

·         To foster an inclusive and diverse community where different backgrounds and cultures in staff and students are cherished and celebrated, and their different cultural experiences and identities are embraced in order to better prepare all students for an increasingly diverse and complex future work environment;

·         To develop online and digital enhancements to our curricula, our evidence-based pedagogy, our community building and our focus on teaching global challenges.

Background of any social science is welcome, and expertise in higher education and/or STEMMB disciplinary contexts is of especial interest. 


As part of the investment into innovative learning and teaching across the College, a Research Associate and PhD student will also be appointed to CHERS who will work in conjunction with the Associate Professor.
