Suicide prevention: research underway

The University of Worcester is working with Universities UK to collect data about incidences of student suicide and current suicide prevention strategies across the higher education sector. The research aims to gather information about:

  • The prevalence of suicide in the student population in the last three years that may help to inform future student suicide prevention activities.
  • Strategies used to prevent and respond to student suicide, including examples of initiatives within specific higher education providers from which other institutions may be able to learn.
  • Barriers and facilitators to effective suicide prevention and response strategy implementation.

The project is supported by the Department of Health, Public Health England and the Office for National Statistics. Vice Chancellors have been invited to participate, but a variety of HE leaders and staff members will be involved in contributing data (the survey closes on 30th March 2018).
