Contribution of Business Schools and HE to Inclusive Development

South Africa, 19 - 20 Apr

The University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB), the University of Bath School of Management and the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) Conference 2017, The Contribution of Higher Education and Business Schools to Inclusive Development is set to take place at Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Studies (STIAS), Stellenbosch, South Africa from 19 – 20 April 2017.

The conference revolves around two inter-related core themes:

First, inclusive development which addresses the potential of business schools and/or higher education to contribute through research, teaching, community engagement and leadership to the well-being of everyone, including excluded groups in a world characterised by increasing inequalities between, as well as within, the Global North and South.

Second, the inclusive development of business schools and/or higher education, which relates to diversity and equity in terms of academic faculty, leaders and managers, and the social inclusiveness of the student body.

What are the implications of this agenda for those studying, working, managing and leading in business schools in particular and higher education in general? What are the key points of challenge, and what possibilities are created? What does this mean for the debate about the ‘social impact’ of higher education overall and business schools in particular? The conference provides a stimulating international forum for papers of a theoretical and/or empirical nature on this theme.

Distinguished keynote speakers Professor Derrick Swartz and Baroness Janet Royall of Blaisdon will be joined by Professor Wim de Villiers, Professor Stan du Plessis, Professor Veronica Hope Hailey, Professor Piet Naude, Professor Rajani Naidoo, Professor Charles Adjasi and Professor Ulrich Hommel.
