Flow of session

This virtual, short workshop (11:00-12:30) is designed to practically explore the challenges and opportunities faced by instructors attempting to innovate their pedagogy.  A number of interactive learning approaches are used, to build a circle of trust and encourage active participation, before the group identifies their biggest teaching innovation challenges.  A range of contemporary techniques will be briefly explored including; naked teaching, discovery learning, open space learning, Lego team building and extraordinary seminars.  

Target audience

The session will be of interest to new and established teachers who are interested in innovating their pedagogy.

About the facilitator

Professor Justin O’Brien sits in the Surrey Innovation and Digital Enterprise Academy at the Surrey University Business School.  As Executive Director for Postgraduate Programmes, Justin teaches digital marketing and entrepreneurship and guest lectures at Stockholm, Toulouse and Kaplan Singapore business schools.  He started out working in international marketing in the aviation industry before a case study on McDonald’s glocalisation ushered a move into Higher Education teaching. He has a very innovative, experiential and practice oriented pedagogic approach and has published more than a fifteen teaching case studies, many of which show case his innovations.

•  To inspire participants to experiment with new teaching approaches
