Participants are welcome to bring any form of w riting project to work on during the session. Whet her you need a kick start with a new project or ar e seeking to maintain focus and momentum with a pr oject which is further underway\, this session wil l help you set achievable writing goals and make p rogress towards them.
\n \nThe session will begin wi th outlining some useful writing practices includi ng – with the forthcoming conference season in min d – some top tips for writing conference abstracts . Participants will then be able to put some of th ese ideas into practice during two blocks of focus ed writing time\, before taking stock of progress and looking ahead to next steps in the writing pro cess.

\n \nDebbie Parker Kinch is a Senio r Lecturer in English Literature at the Open Unive rsity\, UK. She has led the development of ‘Write Now!’ online student writing workshops and in-pers on writing retreats for academic staff within the OU School of Arts and Humanities. These projects h ave enabled her to examine the application of theo ries and practices from academic writing retreats to a range of teaching and staff development conte xts. She is keen to promote the proven benefits of a reflective and community-centred approach to wr iting\, to support academic writing skills and fos ter a supportive sense of belonging for students a nd staff working in the online distance-learning e nvironment.
