Overview

SRHE once again marks Academic Writing Month (AcWriMo) with an online writing programme open t o academics and practitioners in any discipline or field and at any career stage\, including doctora l study. The programme offers protected space to w rite over four 90-minute online sessions and an op portunity for continuity of focus and connection w ith others. Participants will be strongly encourag ed to set and review their writing goals and to sh are these with the group in advance of each sessio n.

Each ses sion will include brief visual check ins/check out s\, but the majority of our time will be devoted t o writing with cameras and mics off.

Dr Debbie Parker Kinch is a Senior Lecturer in English Literature at the Open Univers ity\, UK. She has led the development of ‘Write No w!’ online student writing workshops and in-person writing retreats for academic staff within the OU School of Arts and Humanities. These projects hav e enabled her to examine the application of theori es and practices from academic writing retreats to a range of teaching and staff development context s. She is keen to promote the proven benefits of a reflective and community-centred approach to writ ing\, to support academic writing skills and foste r a supportive sense of belonging for students and staff working in the online distance-learning env ironment.
