This session is part o f Newer Researcher Work in Progress Webinar series . These sessions are open and free for all to atte nd. SRHE aims to provide a platform to present the most stimulating and innovative research taking p lace in higher education studies and practice. The Newer Researcher Network recognises the body of e xciting research being undertaken by newer and ear ly career researchers and seeks to create a suppor tive space in which such researchers can present t heir work-in-progress\, receive feedback\, and dev elop connections with national and international p eers. Questions and feedback from attendees are wa rmly welcomed. We aim for this to be a constructiv e space for work in progress.

Alaa Abdalla is a Postdoctoral Researche r at TU Delft (Netherlands)\, where she works for the Innovation in Delft Engineering Ed ucation (IDEE) initiative within the Teaching Academy. She holds a PhD in Engineer ing Education from Virginia Tech and has a backgro und in Mechanical Engineering. Her research focuse s on students transitioning to higher education an d curriculum design that supports students’ study success and wellbeing. Using predominantly qualita tive research methodologies\, Alaa examines how ed ucational structures\, learning environments\, and curricular practices shape students’ early experi ences in higher education. She is especially inter ested in how research can inform educational polic y and be translated into teaching and curriculum p ractices that support equity\, student wellbeing\, and institutional decision-making.

~~Emily Cleland~~ is a Teaching Fellow and part-time PhD researcher at the University of Abe rdeen whose work focuses on work-based learning\, professional identity\, and digital transformation in higher education. Her doctoral research explor es how digital technologies shape professional ide ntity among students\, educators\, and professiona l services staff in higher education. She coordina tes postgraduate work-based learning courses and p lays a key role in developing work-based learning within her own courses\, across the institution\, and beyond. Her research interests include staff a nd student use of GenAI in higher education\, the development of innovative approaches to work-based learning assessment and feedback\, and Q-methodol ogy. Her work adopts an interdisciplinary\, practi ce-oriented perspective and contributes to debates on digital pedagogy\, employability\, and inclusi ve practice-based education in higher education.
