The Society for Research into Higher Education extends a very warm welcome to all who wish to participate in one or both of these conferences. Researchers are invited to present their work in a variety of ways: by submitting papers for presentation, individually or as part of a symposium or round table, by submitting a poster and/or by attending as a delegate and contributing to the many different discussions and debates within this vibrant three-day event.

The SRHE Conference provides a stimulating forum for papers relating to research into higher education in the widest sense, including those relating to undergraduate, postgraduate and professional education, and the relationship between FE and HE. The aim is to disseminate and exchange ideas across a range of research domains, focusing on international and local contexts. The conference is highly participative, offering plenaries, smaller discussion groups and seminars.

The Society’s annual conferences are truly international, bringing together delegates and contributors from over 40 countries. We invite researchers, scholars, students and administrators from the global higher education community to contribute their perspectives and insights on the ways in which higher education internationally is-and could and should be- responding to economic, social, political and cultural stimuli and re-defining and re-asserting its nature and purpose. As higher education researchers, we aim to provide research insights and knowledge to inform and guide universities, governments and societies.

Conference Theme 2014
Inspiring future generations: embracing plurality and difference in higher education

One of the greatest challenges currently facing the higher education sector globally is how rapidly it can adapt to meet the needs and expectations of current and future generations of both learners and academics. It must seek to develop higher education experiences and outcomes that meet these demands; individually, collectively and globally.

Within the higher education research community we have the capacity, the history, the knowledge and the expertise to inform and shape the transformation of the higher education sector globally into an innovative, multi-faceted system; one with new and different sources of funding, with diverse modes of participation and one more responsive to the changing needs and expectations of people, institutions and societies.

We encourage presentations and discussions that explore both global and local perspectives as well as trends in higher education policies and practices. We also welcome conceptual and theoretical contributions that add to current discourses- or initiate new ones.

Of particular interest this year will be contributions examining the increasingly diverse higher education landscape and how the processes of research, of knowledge production, knowledge-exchange, and knowledge sharing are changing in response to increasing plurality and difference within and across the sector.

This Conference offers the opportunity to explore what it will take to reconsider and refashion higher education provision to inspire future generations of both learners and academics and furnish them with the knowledge and skills required to transform their world, their societies and their life experiences for the better.

Types of Contribution

You are invited to contribute to this debate in a variety of ways by:

• presenting a paper,
• participating in a symposium,
• designing a poster
• organising a round table

Contributions are invited on any aspect of this year’s theme or reflecting your own research interests. Empirical and scholarly research from a wide range of perspectives is welcome.

Delegates who do not wish to present work this year are also warmly welcomed.

This timetable will enable all submitting authors to receive early notification of accepted papers and take full advantage of early booking discounts for travel arrangements as well as for the conference. We look forward once again to receiving your proposals to present your work at what promises to be another very successful conference at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales, UK.

Registration by 26 September 2014 will guarantee accommodation at the Celtic Manor resort (rather than at adjacent hotels) and attracts important early registration discounts. Delegates are reminded that the conference fees are fully inclusive of all conference costs, plus two nights’ accommodation, as well as all meals and social events over the three days.

SRHE Newer Researchers' Conference 9 December 2014

The SRHE Newer Researchers' Conference on the same theme will take place at the Celtic Manor one day in advance of the SRHE Annual Research Conference. This is an excellent event for postgraduate students and newer researchers, providing the opportunity to present research work in a nurturing environment and participate in seminars and discussions. The call for papers for this conference will be issued shortly with the timetable for submissions and registration.
