Through its Network Events and Professional Development Programme, SRHE seeks to provide a platform to present the most stimulating and innovative research taking place in higher education studies and practice. The Newer Researcher network recognises the body of exciting research being undertaken by newer and early career researchers and seeks to create a supportive space in which such researchers can present their work-in-progress, receive feedback, and develop connections with others with shared interests and expertise.

Please join us on 28 September for a one-hour lunchtime session where three of SRHE's Newer Researchers will present their work as a 'lightning talk' followed by Q&A. Questions and feedback from attendees are warmly welcomed - we aim for this to be a constructive space for work in progress.

Brian Irvine is a Research Fellow at UCL’s CRAE, the Center for Research in Autism Education, where his team works on autistic perception within learning environments (and beyond). He is also wrapping up his ESRC funded doctorate with ACER, at the University of Birmingham where he developed a framework for Specialist (Autism) Mentoring in HE. Over the last decade, he has had the pleasure and joy of mentoring many brilliant students as they journeyed through their university life at Royal Holloway.  His background is in autism education and – last century – was Head of RE at a secondary modern.  For fun he keeps bees, as it avoids being interrupted for a few hours. @BigBadBee

Dr Christine O’Dea is senior lecturer, course leader at the York Business School, York St John University. She has more than 15 years of experience in higher education as an eLearning advisor, a lecturer and a researcher. She completed her PhD in the area of transnational education and Chinese direct entry students in 2020. Her major research interests lie in the areas of digital innovation, digital education, management education and global education. She has been conducting and publishing high quality research in recognized journals, such as the British Journal of Educational Technology (BJET) and Policy Futures in Education. Currently she is an associate editor (educational technology) for the Journal of University Teaching & Learning Practice. She is also an editorial board member for Perspectives: Policy and Practice in Higher Education. Previously she was a lead guest editor for the British Journal of Educational Technology. 

Yi-Hsuan Huang is a doctoral researcher at the School of Education, University of Bristol. Her research interest focuses on the internationalisation of higher education and international student mobility in East Asia. In particular, her doctoral study investigates the relationships between higher education institutions' internationalisation strategies and their organisational features in Taiwan's context with institutional theories.
