Ulrich Teichler has been professor at the International Centre for Higher Education Research (INCHER) of the University of Kassel (Germany) from 1978 to 2013 and its director for 16 years. He was visiting professor, conducted research or taught at ten other institutions and visited more than 80 countries. His research projects and about 1,500 publications addressed HE and the world of work, international comparison of HE systems, the academic profession, and international mobility and cooperation in HE. For many years, he was chairman of the Consortium of Higher Education Researchers (CHER), Vice-President of SRHE and played major roles in EAIR, Academia Europaea and International Academy of Education. He was awarded the doctor honoris causa by the University of Turku (Finland).
